About Makarska
Makarska and the Makarska Riviera are a symbol of tourism in Croatia. It is located 60 kilometers away from Split and 140 km away from Dubrovnik. Beautiful penninsula St. Peters and cape Osejava provide a naturally protected harbor. Before Makarska became a tourist destination, they served as a shelter for sailors.
The climate is Mediterranean, which means that the city has hot and dry summers, and winters are warm and wet. Because of the proximity of the Biokovo mountain, Makarska sometimes get hit by strong northern wind “Bura” (Bora). These winds are among the strongest in the country, sometimes with devastating consequences. However, they are common only in colder time of the year.
The main reason for todays popularity are the incredibly long beaches throughout the Riviera. Furthermore, there is a long city promenade lined with beautiful palm trees in the city center. All in all, Makarska is a complete package that will definitely satisfy all ages.
